The Toronto ACM SIGGRAPH Chapter showcased the SIGGRAPH 2013 Electronic Theatre at The Royal on Thursday November 28th 2013. The Toronto Chapter brought together over 80 computer graphics industry lovers to view the “best of the best” in computer animation shorts, commercials, gaming and film. The evening began with an exciting energy despite the winterish conditions. Contagious warmth and chatter among friends and colleagues filled the foyer of The Royal. Toronto Chapter members–newbies and veterans, students and professionals of all industry backgrounds–swapped beautifully illustrated and designed business cards. “Pick a card,” they asked, presenting three highly stylized options. It was an evening of networking, as well as exceptional beverage service provided by The Monarch Tavern.
We were excited to announce our newest chapter supporter: Southpaw Technology, producers of the powerful open source asset management tool TACTIC.
The icing on the cake for the evening was watching the hour-and-a-half collection of amazing computer animation shorts, commercials, gaming clips and selections from this year’s blockbuster VFX movies and short films. The one thing that stood out in 2013 was the great story-telling from all of these beautifully crafted pieces of work. It was a great night for our talented guests to geek out in entertainment enjoyment.
